Name: Ankh
Canon: Kamen Rider OOO
OU/AU/OC: OU
Canon Point: After Movie War Mega Max
History: Ankh was created over 800 years ago by alchemists striving to create artificial life. He was initially simply a set of "Core Medals", 10 in total, that housed his consciousness. He was a complete creature, the "King of Birds", that could perceive the world with clarity. The Ancient King that ordered the creation of these Core Medals craved power, however, and took a single medal from the set. A piece of him now missing, Ankh manifested as a Greeed, a creature of raw desire with crippled senses and frightful powers. Other Greeed were created in the same way, and each of them, outraged at their state, rebelled against The King that had stolen their powers and their wholeness. Ankh was with them... initially, but betrayed them and joined forced with The King. And after the other Greeed were defeated, The King betrayed him as well, snatching his remaining Core Medals from him and crippling him. The King passed those medals and the medals of the other defeated Greeed through his OOO Driver, the source of his power. But it overwhelmed The King and proved to be his undoing. He was torn apart, and the Greeed and their medals were sealed in a coffin for centuries.
The coffin found its way to modern-day Japan, where it was accidentally unsealed. This unleashed the Greeed, but not before Ankh (now reduced to a fraction of himself, a floating hand), fled with some of their medals and the OOO Driver. He ran into Eiji Hino, a traveler with no goals and no ambition, and gave him the OOO Driver and a set of three medals, demanding that he transform and deal with the monster that Uva, the insect Greeed had created to attack him. Eiji couldn't stand to see innocents hurt, and accepted, becoming Kamen Rider OOO.
In the aftermath of the monster attack, two police officers were badly injured. Ankh possessed the body of one of them, a detective by the name of Shingo Izumi. Eiji was outraged and appalled at this body-snatching, and was determined to ensure that the poor man came out of this mess alright. For better or worse, Eiji and Ankh were linked to each other. Eiji had the Driver and the ability to fight, but Ankh had the knowledge and the medals needed to transform. They fought against the Greeed. They navigated the demands of the Kougami Foundation to collect Cell Medals. They encountered and befriended Hina Izumi, the detective's sister, who was determined to someday have her brother back from Ankh's possession. And they found themselves employed and housed at the Cous Cousier, a restaurant owned Chiyoko Shiraishi, an eccentric chef that dreamed of world travel. Eiji and Ankh grew closer, even though Eiji was a bit dense and aimless and Ankh was an unlikable asshole with an obsession with regaining his lost medals.
Through all of this, Ankh found himself coming to appreciate being human, little by little. He could taste, he could see colors, and he had even begun to feel emotions. Shingo Izumi was rubbing off on him much more than he expected. Even after conquering and merging with the "Lost" half of his body, he still wished to be merged with the man. He found himself starting to appreciate Eiji, in a stunted sort of way. Still craving power, he eventually left Eiji behind and even attempted to kill him... but found himself unable to go through with it. In the end, the two came together to defeat the nihilistic Doctor Maki, who had slain the other Greeed and transformed himself into one. Most of the Medals had been destroyed or incorporated into The Medal Vessel that Maki intended to use to destroy the world. Ankh gave his remaining medals to Eiji to use for one last transformation, and the two fought in tandem to bring the evil doctor down. The medal containing Ankh's consciousness cracked, however, and the rest of the medals were sucked into an all-consuming void. Eiji was left with one half of him, Hina the other... and Ankh's spirit lingered to thank Eiji for being his friend. In the aftermath of this, an Eiji with a sense of hope and purpose sets back out into the world with the intention of resurrecting his friend.
(A full history can be found on Ankh's page at the Kamen Rider wiki.)
Personality: Ankh is an asshole. An enormously self-centered, double-crossing, violence-prone asshole. He's selfish and he'll take what he wants without asking, feeling absolutely entitled to anything and everything and to getting his way. He'll work with others if it suits his purposes, and abandon his allies when they can no longer support his goals or meet his needs. He possesses very little empathy. He
His time possessing the body of Shingo Izumi had a profound effect on him, however. He came to appreciate having human senses, and came to actually enjoy the company of Eiji and Hina. He couldn't bring himself to kill Eiji when ordered to, and he eventually sacrificed all of his medals so Eiji could transform into Kamen Rider OOO and save the world from Doctor Maki. He manifested briefly as something more than a Greeed, more than an artificial lifeform made of medals, and expressed genuine thankfulness towards the man. He quite likely has the capacity to befriend other people, given enough time, exposure, and positive feedback.
He's a not-quite-human that would like to be human. When possessing a human body, he's very fond of ice pops and ice cream. He's fascinated and fixated on the wonders of human senses. He's often quite ignorant about things that should be very obvious to the average person... but he's also a quick learner, when he sees a need to learn. He may not know how to handle a fork or properly use chopsticks, but he picked up on the use of smartphones when he realized he could use them to track his enemies. If it's something that'll give him an advantage, he'll learn everything that he can about it. If it seems to be of no benefit, he'll ignore it.
Ankh is proud and haughty, and loathes to admit to weakness or ignorance. He would never say "I don't know", but will instead avoid answering the question that he doesn't have an answer to as though it's simply beneath him. There are quite a few things that Ankh doesn't understand, but he'd never actually admit that. He can come across as very clever, and he often does have brilliant plans... but spend enough time around him and you'll realize that he preens and postures to make himself seem far better than he actually is.
Strengths: Ankh is a Greeed, a sort of homunculus formed out of "Cell Medals", pulled together around "Core Medals" that take their power from various animals. Ankh is the Bird Greeed, with medals based on the Hawk, Peafowl, and Condor. He can most easily make his right hand become a red-armored gauntlet form that can shoot bursts of fire, and he can briefly manifest rainbow-colored wings that allow him to fly. He can jump long distances, has higher than regular human strength, and incredible accuracy with thrown objects. While he has a set appearance that he favors, he can mimic other forms if he chooses. (He once changed himself to have Eiji's appearance as part of a trick to deceive an opponent, for example.)
Ankh can possess other creatures by slipping his right hand over theirs like a glove. He gains access to their knowledge and memories, although it can take some time to sift through and find relevant information. Those that he possesses, in turn, can peer into his. This possession works best when latching on to someone injured or comatose (like Shingo Izumi, in canon), and someone conscious or more willful can very likely shake him off.
As a Greeed, Ankh can make the desires of humans manifest as monsters called "Yummies", by taking one of his Cell Medals and sinking it into their head. The process is uncomfortable but not particularly painful. Ankh's Yummies will "mother" the host that spawned them, bringing them whatever they need to meet their desires. (As an example, a Bird Yummy spawned from an injured boxer about to retire stole the vitality of other boxers to give to him, and brought his rival to him to fight.) As the human's desire is fulfilled, Cell Medals are formed. Destroying the Yummy will result in a shower of Cell Medals that can then be taken and absorbed for their power.
A Greeed's consciousness exists in a single one of their Core Medals. In this case, it would be in Ankh's Taka (Hawk) medal. So long as this remains intact, Ankh can be revived if a sufficiently large pile of Cell Medals is brought to him. It takes an absolutely incredible amount of power to destroy a Core Medal. In-canon, the power of the Purple Greeed, either through Eiji or Doctor Maki, was enough to do it.
Ankh's time spent possessing Shingo Izumi and the (somewhat mysterious) process that Eiji used to resurrect him has given him human-equivalent 5 senses and the ability to genuinely feel deeper emotions like love, friendship, and sorrow. The other Greeed cannot feel these things, and so, relatively speaking, Ankh's got the edge there.
On a less powers-oriented front, Ankh is a quick thinker and learner when inclined to do so, and stubborn as hell. He will boldly throw himself into conflicts with absolute confidence that he can handle it, if it's for his own sake or for the sake of those very few that he actually cares about. Additionally, unlike the other Greeed, Ankh is genuinely capable of love and friendship. He won't just befriend or care about anyone, but he can do it. If he wants to. If he feels like it.
Weaknesses: Ankh is a damaged Greeed, and is normally unable to manifest his full Greeed-self. His current body is formed around five of his ten possible medals. A large enough infusion of Cell Medals or even obtaining some additional Core Medals may be enough to make him manifest his full Greeed self, but likely only for a short time. The rest of the time, he's limited to mimicking a human form or floating around as a disembodied hand.
When Ankh is injured, he bleeds Cell Medals. If he loses enough of them, he'll revert to only manifesting as a hand. If he loses all of his Cell Medals, his Core Medals will scatter and be unable to do much more than roll or clatter about, and possibly possess another living creature to temporarily get around. Cell Medals do not naturally regenerate. He'll need to absorb more of them to re-form or heal himself, or have some other outside force mend him somehow.
Ankh is enough of a jackass that it's often a genuine impairment to achieving his goals. He's lazy, surly, self-centered beyond any reasonable measure, and incredibly selfish and greedy. He is very easy to dislike, which will likely be a serious handicap in Equestria.
Possessions: An empty medal album and a large red silk drape.
Pony/Animal Type: Pegasus (his Actual Hand Body is a griffin-esque claw, which projects/assembles a pegasus body. If he's ever able to manifest his full Greeed form, it would resemble a somewhat monstrous pony-bird hybrid equinoid thing.)
Cutie Mark: The symbols of his three Core Medals (Taka, Kujaku, Condor) layered. Like this!
Pony Picture: Here!
SAMPLES
First Person: [The image on the scroll is of a red stallion with sideswept golden hair, and he looks very relaxed. Judging by all the leaves framing the picture, he's up in a tree somewhere... but he also seems to be lazily sprawled atop some carefully draped shiny red fabric.]
We're going to be here for a while, aren't we? Tch. It's not so different from where I come from. Humans, ponies... they've all got desires. They all want something. That's what gets them from day to day, and most of them don't even realize it. But if you know what you want... well. That makes it easier.
[He leans in towards the scroll, grinning and with no small amount of curiosity.]
So what do you want for yourselves, here? You bunch, you new ponies like me, what's going to motivate you? You're not just going to sit around and wait until something sends you home, are you?
Third Person: Once the initial shock and upset had passed, Ankh found that he was genuinely enjoying this new form. Because this new form had wings. Wings that he could use all he wanted. Wings that wouldn't vanish after a few moments of manifesting. Real honest-to-goodness no-kidding wings that he could fly with. And the Red Greeed, the King of Birds, was meant to fly.
But he wouldn't be Ankh if he wasn't using this new airborne freedom to his advantage and to everyone else's detriment. And he wouldn't be Ankh if he wasn't trying to just take the things that he wanted. It was a matter of soaring idly overhead from the local ice cream vendor, circling idly, waiting for someone to purchase a cone or a sundae or an ice pop in a flavor that he liked. And when they paid for their treat and turned away, he'd dive down at top speed, snatch the frosty treat away with his clawed limb, and whoosh back up into the air and away before anyone could spot where he was headed. And the first few tries had worked just fine. He had made sure to snatch treats from earth ponies and unicorns, ones much less likely to be able to follow him. But his greed had gotten the best of him on the latest grab of a strawberry shortcake bar, for this little earth pony was sharp enough to spot his departure, and determined enough to give chase.
"Hey! Hey, what the... get back here!" And boy, she was a fast one, kicking up dust all the while that she trailed him.
"Tch! First you've got to catch me!" That slight flicker of annoyance that he felt was rapidly giving way to amusement. This was sort of fun, getting her to pursue him... He dipped a little lower, to goad her on.
"I'll catch ya! I'll do it! That's mine! Mine!"
Ankh's laugh was a cruel one. "It's mine now!" And so confident was in his planned flight route that he cast a glance backwards at her, laughed some more, and made a motion to take a bite of his ill-gotten treat. Which was enough of a distraction that he plowed clear into the branches of a tree and came to a jarring stop, getting stuck. Leaves fell this way, leaves fell that way... and oh yes, the ice cream bar went tumbling back down to earth as well.
Graceful little earth pony that she was, she leaped and caught her treat, huffed proudly in Ankh's general direction, and trotted off to leave him cursing and thrashing and lamenting his foolishness. What? Help the ice cream thief get down? No way. It served him right, what had happened.
